It's that time again - hurricane season - and while 2008 has produced a motley crew of storms in three short months, Gustav is the one that stands out. At least so far. Bloggers were bracing themselves for anything.

From Argentina, the Mi * (asterisk) citizen journalism website has sprouted up, with the intention of becoming the platform for budding Spanish speaking citizen journalists to post their work and receive comments, discuss topics, receive training and share content. So far citizen journalism workshops have been given in Argentina, Ecuador and Dominican Republic, and citizens from these and other countries have been participating on the site.

Bloggers from across Latin America also commemorated International Women's Day with posts about the day which is celebrated every March 8 throughout the world. Some also took the opportunity to reflect on some of the issues facing women, but also featured initiatives that are working to alleviate some of these problems.

A series of videos bring attention to the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on November 25th and to the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence which ends on December 10th. Clips from Mexico, Paraguay, Dominican Republic, Colombia, Zambia and Afghanistan all provide different perspectives on the same serious worldwide issue.
